Choose Your Island
Not all Maldives resorts are created equal, and choosing the right one is the single most important decision you'll make. Closer atolls mean cheaper, faster speedboat transfers; farther-flung islands offer seaplane drama and total seclusion, but at a higher cost. Think honestly about what you want from the trip before you book.
Consider, too, the house reef. Some islands are ringed by vibrant coral you can snorkel straight from the beach, while others require a boat trip to reach the good stuff. If underwater life is a priority, choose an island known for its reef — it can make or break a Maldives holiday.
In the Maldives, the greatest itinerary is no itinerary at all. Just sun, sea, and the art of doing nothing.

Time It Right
Once you've arrived, the Maldives is about savouring a handful of perfect experiences rather than rushing between sights:
An overwater villa night — even for one night, sleeping above a glowing lagoon is worth the splurge.
Snorkelling the house reef — dawn brings manta rays, turtles and reef sharks gliding over the coral.
A private sandbank picnic — be dropped on your own sliver of sand with nothing but sea and sky.
The bioluminescent shore — on certain nights, glowing plankton light the water an ethereal blue.
Resist the urge to over-plan. The greatest luxury here is unstructured time — long, slow, and entirely your own.

Do Less, Beautifully
Timing shapes both the experience and the price. November to April brings dry, sunny days — peak season, and charged accordingly. May to October is greener, quieter and considerably cheaper, with brief tropical showers that rarely spoil a day and often clear to brilliant sunshine within the hour.
Whatever the season, the water stays warm and the lagoons stay impossibly blue. And really, that's the whole appeal: the Maldives isn't about ticking off sights or filling an itinerary. It's about doing very little, beautifully — and discovering that sometimes, that's exactly enough.
